Biennale „Moment”

„Moment” - 1st International Biennale of Street Photography, organized by the Centre for the Promotion of Culture „Gaude Mater” in Częstochowa, is an attempt to summarize the fascinating phenomenon of street photography. The genre derives from the art of photojournalism. Street photographs are usually single, unrelated shots; fleeting frames capturing a moment in time, referring directly to the idea of the „decisive moment” of Henri Cartier-Bresson, one of the greatest French photojournalists of the 20th century.

Cartier-Bresson was the master of pressing the shutter button exactly when the perfect image appeared before his eyes. He was able to predict a moment, which, properly composed in the camera's viewfinder, would create an exquisite shot full of hidden meanings. The photographer has found many interesting followers around the world.

Street photographs are works of art. We can admire them in art galleries next to portraits, landscape and fine-art photography. Playing with shape, color, composition, hidden meanings and anecdotes makes the street photographers open-minded, sensitive and observant artists.

Fascinated by street photography, we decided to create a competition that will allow us to explore this remarkable genre. The call for entries for the 1st International Biennale of Street Photography will open in May. We hope for a considerable interest in the contest...The total prize pool is 13 000 PLN (approx. 3 000 €).

Organizer: The Centre of Culture Promotion "GAUDE MATER"

We are a unique place dedicated to promotion of culture in Częstochowa, operating since 1991. We are open to various types of audiences and cooperate with artists from all areas of art. We organize various cultural events, we support the activities of local cultural managers, we invite outstanding personalities from Poland and abroad. We are happy that we can be an important meeting place for people regardless of their age, artistic preferences and beliefs.

Through our activity we build a community linked by a common factor – their love for culture.

As a Cetre for the Promotion of Culture we are the organizer or co-organizer of the largest cultural events in Częstochowa, e.g. JAZZtochowa Festival, Cultural Night, Festival of Kalina Jędrusik, International Biennale of Miniature, GAUDE MATER International Festival of Sacred Music, European Folk Culture Days. In addition, we offer a lot of concerts, exhibitions, workshops, meetings and interdisciplinary activities.

Our Amateur Artistic Movement Center supports the work of artistically active people who are just beginning their creative adventure and do not have their own financial resources to implement their (often extraordinary) projects.

We would like to invite everyone interested in our activities, or in cooperation, to our office in Częstochowa. We would be glad to meet you. You can find more information on our website:
